Power in Purpose– Talking About As Family We Go

It’s unbearably hot here in North Myrtle Beach, SC. No matter how much we turn down the temperature or turn up the AC, it still feels hot, like slowly glowing coals. The heat is one of the burning reasons we haven’t been able to sleep, the other is this idea stirring in our hearts.

“There is power in purpose,” our church-planter friend Dustin says as we congregate under the shade sipping cold drinks. These are the words that keep us up at night and light fire in our bones. There is power in purpose.

There is power in purpose.

As we officially announced Wednesday, our new album is called As Family We Go. We have so much we can’t wait to share with you about the meaning of the title and our hearts behind these songs. Part of the title comes from the fact that we always have considered ourselves less as a band, and more like a family. We travel with Gareth and Ali’s son, Arthur, and Chris’ wife Gabriella works for us on the road. We celebrate holidays, birthdays, and eat meals together. We pray as a family, work as a family, and do ministry as a family. All these things are true.

But more importantly, we belong to a larger family, and that family includes you. The children of God have always been a people on the move, driven by a mission and a purpose. We aren’t part of a social club, but we’re given a charge from the Father: to share His love with the world.

As Christians we know this world is not our home. We’re all on a lifelong journey that ends on greater shores. Until that day our purpose is clear, and our companionship is the family of God. He’s given us each other to encourage, rebuke, care for, weep with, hug, pray for, and laugh with. It’s so purposefully beautiful.

Which is why in the weeks leading up to the release of As Family We Go, we’d like to meet your side of the family! Share pictures, stories, prayer requests and encouragement you may be experiencing from your immediate community by hashtagging #AsFamilyWeGo and tagging us. We’ll be checking everyday for your stories of family, church, and community and sharing them.

We’re family, and as family we go.
